Before moving to Maui in late 2021, we were contracted by Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar in Glendale, Colorado to photograph their top menu items for their DoorDash & GrubHub profiles. The images we captured include some of our most favorite plated dishes ever captured on location – specifically the overhead hero image of all the dishes together, the flourless chocolate cake, grilled salmon, and the key lime pie. Photographing at a fish and seafood restaurant is so enjoyable because all of the food looks absolutely delicious! Plus, we get to eat the dishes after the shoot is wrapped: win win!
What they asked for:
- Bright and vibrant colors
- Bright whites and even window light
- Centered plated dishes that can be square cropped if needed
- Well paired dishes with beverages and accessories
What we delivered:
So, how the heck does all this happen? To start, make a list of all the dishes you need photographed. The amount of dishes affects how much time we will need for the shoot. Run the list by us and we’ll give suggestions if needed. On the day of the shoot, set aside an area for the shoot to happen. The best place for that would be by a window so we get lots of light; and ideally several open tables so we have room to move the dishes around. Once we get there, we’ll have your kitchen staff start making the dishes. We do the big shot last so we might have to replace some dishes before that photo to make sure all your food looks delicious!
You’ll generally see both of us at your restaurant photoshoot. Brandon shooting/styling and Ashlyn keeping us on track, making sure we’re getting all of the correct dishes where they need to be. Restaurant menu photoshoots are some of our favorite shoots to do! We love coming in and turning your restaurant space into a mini photo studio where we can take gorgeous photos of your delicious food!
