Grand Wailea ‘Ikena Restaurant Opening

In mid-2022, the Waldorf Astoria Grand Wailea Resort & Hotel re-opened ‘Ikena, its indoor-outdoor breakfast buffet. The marketing team at the Grand Wailea approached us to capture the essence of the freshly renovated buffet by focusing on the architecture, interior design, and the scenery of the property from the outdoor eating area.

The biggest hurdle we had to overcome was the timing of the shoot. The shoot took place before the buffet opened at 7am, opening weekend. We scouted the location on three different occasions to see what the early morning light looked like in this open air resort and to view the space in person to better plan out what angles of the space worked best for the brief.

Using the design renderings as our shotlist, calling back and forth to micro adjust furniture placement, and a wireless tether to the laptop to ensure focus & composition, the shoot ran smoothly. After everything was said and done, we wrapped at exactly 6:57 am.

What we delivered:

All of the little details of this restaurant are amazing! From the mini Le Creusets and teal accents on the tables to the greenery hanging over the walls, a breakfast here would be heavenly.
